Isolating Confidential Apps in Android 17 Private Space
Android 17 refines Private Space, an isolated user profile profile designed to hide banking, medical, and personal messaging apps behind separate biometric locks. At Android People (androidpeople.in), we share how to configure and lock down Private Space on your device.
Setting Up a Separate Google Account and Biometrics
To prevent notification leaks, Android 17 allows Private Space to run under a completely separate Google Account:
- Navigate to Settings > Security & Privacy > Private Space.
- Authenticate with your primary screen lock and tap Set Up Private Space.
- Create a unique PIN, pattern, or fingerprint unlock distinct from your primary lock screen password.
- Sign into a secondary Google Account to isolate app installation history and Play Store downloads.
Hiding Private Space from the App Drawer
To keep Private Space completely invisible, toggle off Show Private Space in App Drawer under settings. Private Space can then only be unlocked by typing your secret PIN into the app drawer search bar.
