Every year, two phones define what smartphone photography looks like: Google’s Pixel and Samsung’s Galaxy S Ultra. In 2026, the battle has become more competitive than ever. The Google Pixel 10 arrives with the brand-new Tensor G5 chip built on TSMC’s 3nm node, engineered specifically to run Google’s most advanced computational photography algorithms in real time. On the other side, the Samsung Galaxy S26 ships with a massive 200MP primary sensor and a redesigned Nightography engine that Samsung claims captures more light than any smartphone in history. Primary Camera: Raw Resolution vs Computational Genius

The Galaxy S26 leads on paper with a 200MP primary sensor using Samsung’s latest ISOCELL HP5 technology. This sensor packs an enormous amount of detail into every shot and uses advanced pixel-binning to combine 16 pixels into one for superior low-light performance in standard 12.5MP output mode. The Pixel 10, by contrast, uses a 50MP sensor — but pairs it with Google’s real-time HDR+ neural processing that runs over 50 AI models simultaneously per shot. In daylight, both phones produce outstanding images. Side-by-side test shots reveal the S26 capturing marginally more fine texture in foliage and fabric, while the Pixel 10 consistently produces more accurate, natural-looking skin tones and white balance without any editing.

Low-Light and Night Mode Performance

This is where the Pixel 10 has historically dominated, and 2026 is no different. At 5x, both phones are remarkably close, with the Pixel edge again coming from its post-processing pipeline which recovers fine details in distant subjects more cleanly. Push to 10x or beyond using digital zoom and the S26 retains slightly more raw detail thanks to its higher-resolution sensor, while the Pixel 10 still appears more color-accurate and less prone to purple fringing artifacts.

Video Recording: Where Samsung Pulls Ahead

Samsung has invested heavily in video, and it shows. The Galaxy S26 can record 8K at 30fps and 4K at 120fps with optical image stabilization, a spec the Pixel 10 cannot currently match. Google’s Video Boost feature, which offloads video processing to Google’s cloud servers for richer HDR output and stabilization, remains exclusive to the Pixel 10 Pro model. At 4K 60fps — the sweet spot for most users — the S26 produces slightly crisper footage with better dynamic range in highlight-heavy outdoor scenes, while the Pixel 10 wins in color accuracy and microphone audio quality.

Selfie Camera

Both phones ship with 12MP ultrawide selfie cameras, but their processing approaches differ. The Pixel 10 applies real-time skin tone correction that adapts across different lighting environments, producing consistently flattering results across all ethnicities without over-smoothing. The S26’s selfie camera does an excellent job capturing sharp detail in bright conditions but can sometimes apply an overly beautified look at the expense of skin texture in close-up shots.

The Verdict

If you shoot primarily photos and care deeply about natural-looking images out of the box, the Pixel 10 is the winner. If you value maximum zoom capability, 8K video, and the raw resolution headroom for large crops and prints, the Galaxy S26 is your phone.
