The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 makes a stronger case than any Galaxy Watch before it for genuinely crossing that line. With a new body composition sensor, advanced sleep coaching powered by AI, blood oxygen monitoring that now works continuously rather than on demand, and the addition of glucose trend tracking for users with compatible CGM devices, the Galaxy Watch 8’s health suite is genuinely comprehensive. After four weeks of wearing it full-time, including sleep tracking every night and workouts every other day, here is the complete assessment.

Design and Build: Refined Aluminium

The Galaxy Watch 8 comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes with an aluminium case available in Graphite, Silver, and Rose Gold, plus a titanium Ultra variant at significantly higher cost. The aluminium model we tested weighs 29.9 grams for the 44mm — comfortable enough to sleep with, which matters for the sleep tracking features. The sapphire crystal display glass is scratch-resistant in daily use. The round face with subtle bezel has a premium appearance, and the Quick Release band system makes swapping straps effortless. IP68 water resistance and 5ATM swim-proofing means the Watch 8 can handle open-water swimming, showering, and accidental pool submersion without concern.

Workout Detection and GPS

The Galaxy Watch 8 automatically detects 12 workout types including walking, running, cycling, swimming, and gym exercises — triggering automatic workout recording within 10 minutes of activity detection without requiring manual start. GPS is dual-frequency (L1 and L5 bands), delivering excellent accuracy for outdoor running routes and cycling segments. We found GPS track accuracy to be excellent in urban environments and park settings. The running coach feature — providing real-time cadence feedback, stride length guidance, and heart rate zone alerts — is practical and non-intrusive, delivered through haptic patterns that distinguish between different alert types without requiring you to look at the watch screen mid-run.

Battery Life: Honest Assessment

Samsung claims 40 hours of battery life for the 44mm Galaxy Watch 8. In real-world testing with continuous heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, twice-daily SpO2 measurements, GPS tracked runs on Tuesday and Friday, and “Always On Display” disabled, we reached approximately 32-36 hours before needing to charge. With AOD enabled, this dropped to about 24 hours. The 10W fast charging refills 0-100% in about 65 minutes using the magnetic charging dock. Unlike the Apple Watch Ultra 2, the Galaxy Watch 8 does not support wireless charging from a Qi pad — charging requires the proprietary magnetic dock.

Verdict: The Benchmark for Android Smartwatches

The Galaxy Watch 8 is the best Android smartwatch you can buy in 2026, and it is not particularly close. The health sensor suite is genuinely comprehensive, the sleep coaching is data-rich and actionable, and the fitness tracking accuracy is excellent. For Rs 34,999 (44mm aluminium), it offers more health-relevant hardware than any competing Android watch at this price. The main alternative to consider is the Google Pixel Watch 4, which offers deeper Android and Google Workspace integration but a less comprehensive health sensor package.
