Android 17 Is Rolling Out — Here Is When Your Phone Gets It
Google released Android 17 to Pixel devices in May 2026, and the broader rollout to manufacturer devices is now well underway. Unlike previous Android versions that sometimes left mid-range devices waiting 12-18 months for updates, Android 17’s modular update architecture (Android Runtime and Project Mainline) ensures that many security and API improvements reach all Android 10+ devices through Google Play System Updates regardless of the full OS upgrade. But for the complete Android 17 feature experience — including Gemini integration, Private Space, the redesigned Quick Settings, and the expanded AI features — you need the manufacturer’s full Android 17 build. Here is the comprehensive update timeline for the major manufacturers serving India.
Google Pixel: Already Received Android 17
All Google Pixel devices eligible for Android 17 received the update on May 15, 2026 — the same day as Google I/O. Eligible Pixel devices include the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are not eligible for Android 17 — Android 16 was their final major OS update. To check your Pixel’s update status, go to Settings > System > System Update.
