BGMI Season 5 Update: New Gun, Mode, and Rank System Explained

BGMI Season 5 Is a Game Changer for Indian Players

Battlegrounds Mobile India’s Season 5 update has dropped and it is one of the most content-dense updates since the game’s India-specific relaunch. Krafton has delivered for the BGMI community this season: a brand-new submachine gun, an eagerly awaited Battle of Clans competitive mode, a completely rebuilt ranking system that rewards consistent play over lucky top-10 finishes, and a new Royale Pass themed around Indian mythology. Here is everything significant that arrived with Season 5.

New Weapon: P90 MkII Submachine Gun

Season 5 introduces the P90 MkII — an evolution of the classic P90 adapted specifically for BGMI’s close-quarters combat meta. The MkII variant carries a 60-round magazine by default (the largest in the SMG category), fires at a rate of 800 rounds per minute, and uses 9mm ammunition compatible with the large existing SMG ammo pool on most maps. The recoil pattern is horizontal-dominant with low vertical climb, making it significantly easier to control than the UMP45 at equivalent ranges. The P90 MkII is found in all maps as a regular ground spawn and also appears in Supply Crates at an increased rate. Initial community testing suggests it is particularly strong in the 10-30 metre engagement range — closer than the SMG sweet spot of the M416 but beyond the effective range of most shotguns.

New Mode: Battle of Clans

The most-requested feature from BGMI’s competitive community for the past two years, Battle of Clans is now live as a permanent game mode. Clans register their rosters (minimum 8 active members) and compete in weekly bracket tournaments against other clans of similar clan level. Matches consist of three Classic Mode rounds where points are accumulated based on placement (1st place = 10 points, 2nd = 7, 3rd = 5, etc.) and total kills across all three rounds. The clan with higher cumulative points advances in the bracket. Winners earn exclusive Clan Cosmetics — frame and nameplate sets visible across all BGMI modes — and accumulate “Clan Prestige Points” that determine their position on the monthly Clan Leaderboard, with the top 100 clans on each server receiving season-end rewards.

New Ranking System: Consistent Play Now Rewarded

The biggest systemic change in Season 5 is the ranking system overhaul. The previous system rewarded players who got lucky top-10 placements in a handful of rounds, allowing inconsistent players to reach high tiers through variance. The new Consistency Rating (CR) System tracks your average placement and kill contribution across all 20 most recent ranked matches. Your displayed rank now reflects a weighted combination of your peak single-match performance (30% weight) and your Consistency Rating across recent matches (70% weight). This change significantly reduces the “rank up then immediately die” cycle that frustrated BGMI’s competitive player base, and it rewards players who maintain solid performances over time rather than chasing high-risk high-reward plays in individual sessions.

Season 5 Royale Pass: Mahabharata Theme

The Season 5 Royale Pass adopts an Indian mythology theme inspired by the Mahabharata — featuring character skins styled after Arjuna (archer warrior), Draupadi (mystical queen), and Hanuman (divine warrior) at various RP milestone levels. The cosmetic design quality is among the best Krafton has produced for BGMI specifically, incorporating traditional Indian textile patterns, dhoti and armour combinations, and weapon skins featuring intricate mehndi-inspired engraving. The Elite Pass is available for 360 UC (Unknowns Cash) and the Elite Plus for 960 UC. Season 5 runs for 60 days from the launch date, giving players ample time to complete the RP track through daily mission completion.
