Motorola Is Quietly Building Great Phones Again
Motorola spent the better part of five years being relevant only in the budget and mid-range segment, largely ignoring the Rs 50,000+ space where Samsung, OnePlus, and Google dominate Android. The Motorola Edge 60 Pro is the brand’s most serious attempt to reclaim premium territory in years — and it is more compelling than most people expected. At Rs 54,999, it undercuts the OnePlus 14 and delivers a surprisingly well-rounded package that deserves careful consideration if you are phone shopping in this price range. After two weeks of full-time daily use, here is the honest verdict.
Display: A Genuine Surprise
The 6.7-inch pOLED display — Motorola’s term for its curved OLED panels — is the Edge 60 Pro’s most impressive feature and the first thing you notice when you pick up the phone. The 1.5K resolution (2712 × 1220), 165Hz refresh rate with LTPO 3.0 adaptive technology, and 2,500 nits peak brightness combine into a display that genuinely looks stunning in person. The curve is gentle — not the aggressive waterfall curves that made earlier edge displays functionally annoying — and the Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection on both front and rear gives the phone a reassuringly solid feel. Colour accuracy in “Natural” mode is excellent and the display earned a DisplayMate A rating in independent testing.
Camera: Motorola’s Most Ambitious System
The Edge 60 Pro carries a triple camera setup co-developed with Sony: a 50MP primary sensor with optical image stabilisation, a 13MP 2x telephoto, and a 50MP ultrawide. The camera system’s strongest performance is in daylight — colours are accurate and punchy, the dynamic range is wide, and the natural processing pipeline avoids the over-sharpened look that plagues many mid-range cameras. Low-light performance with Motorola’s “Fusion Engine” AI processing is significantly better than previous Edge phones — comparable to the OnePlus 14 in most dim-light scenarios. The telephoto lens at 2x optical is the weakest link — a 3x periscope would have been more useful and competitive at this price point.
Performance: Dimensity 9400 Delivers
The Edge 60 Pro uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 processor — the same chip family powering Vivo’s X200 series and Samsung’s Galaxy A76 Ultra. Performance is excellent: app launches are near-instant, gaming at high-medium settings runs without throttling in 20-minute sessions, and the RAM management with 12GB LPDDR5X keeps recent apps available throughout a full day of use. The Dimensity 9400 is slightly behind the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in peak benchmark scores but performs essentially identically in real-world daily tasks. Thermal management is adequate — the phone gets warm during extended gaming but does not reach uncomfortable temperatures.
Battery: 5,000mAh with 125W TurboPower
The 5,000mAh battery charges at 125W with Motorola’s TurboPower wired technology — from empty to 100% in approximately 27 minutes, which is among the fastest charging available anywhere near this price. Wireless charging is 50W with the optional Motorola wireless charger. Battery life in daily use reaches 6-7 hours of screen-on time under mixed workloads — solid for a phone this thin (7.9mm). For heavier users, the 125W charging speed means anxiety about battery life is essentially non-existent: 15 minutes of charging while getting ready in the morning adds approximately 55% charge.
Software: Clean Android with 5-Year Promise
Motorola ships the Edge 60 Pro with near-stock Android 17 — one of the cleanest software experiences available outside of Pixel phones. There is minimal bloatware, the Motorola-specific features (Ready For desktop mode, Moto Actions gesture controls, and ThinkShield enterprise security) are genuinely useful additions rather than clutter. Motorola has committed to 5 years of Android OS updates and 5 years of security patches — a significant improvement over the brand’s historically weak update commitments and competitive with Samsung’s mid-range update promise.
Verdict: The Dark Horse of 2026
The Motorola Edge 60 Pro is the most underrated Android phone of 2026. It offers a stunning display, a fast-charging battery that removes range anxiety entirely, solid camera performance, and clean software at Rs 54,999. It does not beat the OnePlus 14 or Samsung Galaxy A76 in every category, but it earns serious consideration from buyers who prioritize display quality and charging speed above all else. Motorola’s return to the premium segment is more convincing than anyone anticipated. For more smartphone reviews, visit Android People.
